The staff members of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN) were on Wednesday, 3rd and Thursday, 4th December 2024 converged at the College Auditorium for a 2-day retreat/training. This comes as a subsequence of the College Management’s unalloyed dedication to fine-tuning the College workforce for productivity and efficiency.

The training workshop was aimed at achieving administrative efficiency, promoting adherence to professional ethics by strengthening the skills, resources, instincts and attitude every staff of the College needs to adapt and thrive in service delivery.

The training which was themed “From Theory to Practice: Meeting Up with the 21st Century Administrative Demands in a Structured Public Institution” had eight sub themes, namely;

a) Basic Information about the Public Service

b) Public Service Performance Management

c) Electronic Record Keeping (Management)

d) Sources of Information/Acceptable Terms and Abbreviations and Official Correspondence and Writing in Public Service

e) Public Service Documents and Their Uses: The Structure, Role, Relationship and Chain of Command

f) Leadership Style, Delegation and Motivation

g) Code of Conduct in Government Business, Etiquette, Dressing, Attitude to Work, Grooming and Basic Issues in Protocol Matters

h) Industrial Relations in Government/Care of Institutional Property

The Provost of the College, Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu in her opening remarks opined that continuous professional development is central to enabling staff to perform at optimal level for the overall benefit of the College. She emphasized that staff must be current, consistent and professional to ensure the integrity of the College.

The resource persons left it all out on the topics and urged the College staff to go back to their duty stations and manifest all they have learned.

Reacting to the training, Dr.Yvonne Amaka Okafor, a staff of the College, stated that training is a necessary tonic needed to rejuvenate bureaucratic personnel of an educational institution. She further commended College Management for striving/engaging staff towards interactive and responsive public administration for achieving quality in the College services. She equally thanked the resource persons doing justice to the topics.

In his vote of thanks, Dr. Ndu Azubuike acknowledged that knowledge gained during the training workshop will strengthen the ecosystem and was needed to bring pragmatic and organizational maturity to the school.
