It was a historic moment in Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 when Her Excellency, Dr Nonye Soludo, wife of the Executive Governor of Anambra State visited the institution. It was the first time Her Excellency visited the College.

Her Excellency Dr Nonye Soludo was in the College to commission the institution’s Healthy Living Garden which is one of the institution’s evidences of the implementation of the First Lady’s health initiative termed Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo.

Since the statewide launching of this initiative by Her Excellency, the Provost of the College, Dr Justina Anyadiegwu has hit the ground running with its implementation in the College. A monthly exercise session termed ‘A Walk with the Provost’ has been implemented. Thereafter, the NOCEN Healthy Living Club was launched on the 10th of October, 2024.

Her Excellency Dr Nonye Soludo was impressed with what the Provost has been doing in the College with the health Initiative. In her remarks, she thanked the school management for keying into her health ideas and urged the College community to make their health a priority because nobody will be at their best in what they do if they don’t have good health.

The Provost of the College, in her remarks, thanked Her Excellency for finding time to visit the College. She also appreciated her for birthing such a wonderful initiative which will obviously improve health and productivity. The Provost also thanked the representatives from World Health Organisation (WHO), the traditional ruler of Nsugbe, the Commissioner for Health and other government functionaries present at the occasion.

The occasion was lighted by the presentation from the pupils of Demonstration Nursery and Primary School. The pupils ended their presentation by warning that if we fail to make healthy food our medicine, we’d be forced to make medicine our food. Students of Demonstration Secondary School, Nsugbe also made a presentation on Nutrigenomics, stating that we are what we eat. Her Excellency, who was very pleased with their presentations, commended them highly.

The highlight of the occasion was the tour through the agric facilities in the college and the commissioning of the Healthy Living Garden in NOCEN by Her Excellency. She lauded the management for what the College has done so far with the health initiative, and for their speedy establishment of the Healthy Living Garden.
