NOCEN SUG POLLS: Comrade Samuel Madubueze Emerges President-Elect
In what was a hotly contested election, Comrade Samuel Chukwunwike Madubueze, a 300-level student of the Department of Religious and Cultural Studies, School of Arts and Social Sciences has been declared the winner and therefore returned elected in the just concluded elections of the Students Union Government of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN).
The election which was held on thursday, 26th september, 2024 recorded an unprecedented number of votes cast.
Comrade Samuel, who hails from Umumbo, Anyameluem Local Government Area of Anambra State got a total of 645 votes to beat his rival, Joshua Ndukwe who got 510 votes.
In the same vein, Kosisochukwu Ogugua got a total of 569 votes to emerge as the Vice President defeating Emmanuel Onyekwe that earned 557 votes.
While congratulating the president-elect, vice president-elect and other winner alike, the Provost of the College, Dr Justina Anyadiegwu commended the election committee, representative of NANS and students for their patience and commitment towards the success of the election. She appreciated the members of the SUG Electoral committee, Security personnel and other election observers.
Announcing the results, the SUG Election Committee Chairman, Dr Bumi Idowu commended what he described as “yet another great effort in sustaining the peaceful conduct of the SUG elections in the College. In his words, “We have improved greatly in our electoral process and are conscious of students’ passion to elect worthy SUG Leaders in this institution and we are not relenting.”
In his remarks, the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Uche Law Egbomuche expressed gratitude to God for the smooth conduct of the election. According to him, “the electoral committee did a marvelous job. You can attest to the fairness, credibility and transparency in the election”.
The election was monitored by members of NANS, Nigerian Police, DSS personnel and agents appointed by contestants. Other elected officials include:

Assistant Secretary General: Ugwuja Precious ( Unopposed. 1016 votes)
Financial Secretary: Agbata Chiamaka (569 votes)
Treasurer: Iwuegbunam Kenneth (Unopposed. 1104 votes)
Commissioner for Education: Ogboh Ebubechukwu (726 votes)
Commissioner for Information: Nnamani Daniel C. (557 votes)
Director of Socials: Ibina Chidimma (790 votes)
Commissioner for Sports: Onwunyi Chisom (756 votes)
Commissioner for Transport: Mbakwe Blessed (621 votes)
Commissioner for Welfare: Obunike Chukwuemrie (574 votes).
Miss Chisom Perpetual Nwajagu a student of History and International Studies commended the College Management for not interfering with the electoral process and congratulated the winners.
