Indecent Dressing In Nigerian Higher Institutions
An Evangelist of Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria, Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe Chapter, Evangelist Ngozi Okonkwo has lamented of the high rate of indecent dressing among students in Nigerian Higher Institutions. It is quite disturbing that nowadays, male and female students in our tertiary institutions dress indecently.
This is definitely against the moral standards of our society. Unfortunately, we are gradually losing our tradition, culture and religion to modernisation. The students exhibit this attitude in form of sagging for male student and show breast or buttock wears for female students. If students are allowed to dress and behave the way they like, it will definitely affect their future and that of the society negatively. It is worthy of note that the negative effect of the social media will ruin our morals if nothing is done to check it. It is advisable that parents inculcate the virtue of decency in dressing of their children at their tender age so that they can grow with it. Parents should also frequently visit their children’s school so as to know what they are doing. This is so because some of the students pretend at home but engage in all sorts of negative activities in school. No doubt, this affects their academic performance, which in turn affects their future as they can easily fall into the wrong hands. There is the need to draw the attention of religious leaders to this anomaly. They should always spend quality time to preach against it, and if possible, mete out sanctions. Schools can also introduce Moral Instruction to checkmate this menace. Students who are victims of such vice should be denied access to the school compound. We cannot continue to allow such immoral behaviours in our society, all in the name of modernisation.
